MADURAI: The importance of human contacts, human realms and feelings of human mind was stressed at the convocation of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) held in Madurai today.

“Our current atmosphere is so filled with gadgets and instruments that we tend to lose human contacts and personal level communication. Gadgets have eaten much in to our lives that writing by hand, correspondence by hand-written letters, exchange through postal system and shopping by manual system have all become obsolete. Mention of any these elicits a tough stare and make a comic figure out of the one who mentioned it,” Dr.Sudha Seshayyan, Vice-Chairperson, Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai, said while delivering the convocation address at the 56th annual convocation of MKU here on October 22nd 2024.

She stressed that even though hand-written letters might have got dispensed away with, it is certain that feelings, emotions and sentiments of the human mind cannot be wiped away. “The best teaching resource is the human being and the best compendium of knowledge is the collection of experiences that our elders have gone through. Therefore, wherever your are and whatever you do, allocate at least a part of your focus and attention to the human realm,” chief guest Dr.Sudha Seshayyan had exhorted the graduands passing out of MKU today after receiving their degrees.

EDUCATION IS LIKE A PASSPORT:

She pointed out that education is like a passport and opens the gate to new thinking, clears immigration to a novel zone and transports to a wider vista. Her convocation speech had urged that one can be technology friendly and drive technology, but not be driven and another point is to remember the Indian perspective of knowledge of learning.

Tamil Nadu Governor and MKU Chancellor Mr.R.N.Ravi had presided over the convocation ceremony today and presented degrees to the candidates while Mrs.E.Sundaravalli, Commissioner of Collegiate Education and Convener of Syndicate Committee, had presented the annual report of the university by highlighting various activities, achievements and awards of MKU.
