MADURAI: The Post Graduate and Research Department of Economics of The American College in Madurai has organized an international workshop on ‘Data Analysis for Social Sciences’ on October 15th and 16th 2024 in collaboration with Indian Economic Association (IEA), New Delhi.
Prof.V.K.Malhotra, president, IEA, had inaugurated the workshop here yesterday in the presence of American College Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober and experts in the field of economics and social sciences.
In his inaugural address, Prof.Dr.V.K.Malhotra had pointed out that economics is a very important subject for development because it handles data and gives a direction through data analysis which is important for social activities and sustainable development, a press release received from the college has said.
“Data analysis helps to calculate the global GDP. India and China are contributing significantly to the global GDP. We are proud with the recent Nobel Prize given to Economics and the names announced for Economics Nobel Prize this year,” Prof.Malhotra who is Chairman of Food Commission, MP and former Member Secretary of ICSSR-New Delhi, has said.
DATA TO SOLVE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS:
American College Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober who presided over the inaugural session had pointed out that data analysis is an important tool for mathematics and computer science, but it is a very important in social sciences because economic problems can get solved only based on data analysis.
Among those who were present at the technical sessions and addressed the delegates include Dr.C.Muthuraja, Head, PG and Research Department of Economics-American College, Dr.Justin Jebaraj, organizing secretary of the workshop, Dr.K.Usha, joint secretary, Dr.S.Jeyarani, associate professor, Dr.S.T.Jacob Ponraj, Associate Professor and Dr.M.Kannan, Director (Research), M.S.Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation-Madurai.
