Cleanliness is a daily activity: NCC event sends a clear message from Gandhi Museum in Madurai

MADURAI: The ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ event organized by 7 (TN) Battalion of NCC at the sprawling Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai today has sent out a clear message about the importance of cleanliness.

Hundreds of NCC cadets (National Cadet Corps) from various colleges and schools took part in the cleanliness drive which was conducted in a manner befitting the 155th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd 2024.

“The aim of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is clean neighbourhood and clean India. Cleanliness drive is not just for 15 days or just for today. Make it a daily activity in your home and surroundings. Imbibe the motto of cleanliness in your everyday life. Pledge yourself for daily cleanliness,” Col.V.K.S.Chouhan, Group Commander, NCC-Madurai, has said while addressing the young cadets at Gandhi Museum in Madurai today and he also emphasized the importance of following ‘Swachhata’-cleanliness in behaviour and traditions at today’s event held for ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2024’ observed from September 17th to October 2nd 2024.

CLEANLINESS IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY:

Prof.Dr.C.Muthuraja, Head, PG and Research Department of Economics, American College, who was invited to address the NCC cadets on ‘Gandhiji’s idea of cleanliness’ has said that what Mahatma Gandhi had propagated all his life is now important for sustainable development goals.

“Gandhiji had practiced truth, non-violence, discipline, cleanliness and sanitation. Maintaining cleanliness is our moral responsibility, it must be a part of our life. It is the Gandhian way of living,” Dr.C.Muthuraja added.

Lt.Col.V.Sivakumar, Officer Commanding, 7(TN) battalion NCC-Madurai, Major Dr.G.Damodaran, NCC officers, ANOs and cadets were among those who participated in the ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ activity at Gandhi Museum in Madurai today along with NCC officers from various colleges including Lt.Syed Ali from MSS Wakf Board College and J.Prince from American College here.

NCC cadets from The American College had performed three skits to highlight the essence of environment protection, cleanliness and health.
