MADURAI: The latest advanced version of fiber tracking navigation system 3.0 for removing brain tumours was introduced at Hannan Joseph Hospital in Madurai by acquiring Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled software from Brainlab which is a leading medical technology company from Germany.
This BrainLab Fiber Tracking Navigation 3.0 version will help the neurosurgeons and associated doctors to real time navigation images for performing brain tumour surgeries with top class precision and perfect planning.
Addressing a press conference in Madurai today- on September 17th 2024, Hannah Joseph Hospital Chairman and Managing Director Dr.M.J.Arunkumar has said that the Brainlab Fiber tracking Navigation 3.0 version for removing brain tumours has been launched for the first time in South Asia and in India especially at Hannah Joseph Hospital here.
“Already there are Fibertracking navigation version 1.0 and 2.0 for last nearly seven years. BY introducing the latest 3.0 version, many of the intra axial brain tumours can be removed with utmost precision without damaging the important fiber tracts in the brain that controls the functions like limb movement, speech, language and memory etc. Already three patients underwent surgery at Hannah Joseph Hospital in Madurai through this new software version,” Dr.Arunkumar said.
VERY USEFUL FOR SURGERY PLANNING:
He told reporters along with his hospital’s neurology team that the latest Brainlab fiber tracking technology using DTI (Diffusion Tensor Imaging) images from the patient’s MRI is an image-guided tool especially in brain tumour resection surgery.
“These neuro-imaging tools are essential for operation planning, particularly for tumour resection and at the same time to preserve brain function. Once you achieve radical removal of the brain tumour, then radiation and chemotherapy becomes easier subsequently. We are glad to announce that three patients undewent successful removal of tumour with this latest version last month. So, now we have the latest micro neurosurgical techniques in our Hannah Joseph Hospital in Madurai, it helps neurosurgeons in a great way because brain is sensitive and precision becomes important. Already two patients were discharged from the hospital and the other patient too is doing well. We thank Brainlab-India for helping us acquire the 3.0 navigation version for brain tumour surgeries,” Dr.M.J.Arunkumar told mediapersons at today’s press meet in Madurai.
Ms.Vibha Singh from New Delhi, who is the head of Brainlab (India), has said that she is happy to be present in Madurai and see the successful installation of this advanced system and also the successful surgeries done by renowned neurosurgeon Dr.M.J.Arun Kumar and his medical team at Hannah Joseph Hospital.
Dr.A.Ganesh, consultant neurosurgeon, Dr.S.Vinayagamani, consultant interventional neuroradiologist, Dr.Rama Sankari, Dr.Fahima and Mr.Arthanareeswaran (Brainlab-India-Bangalore), were among those present at the press meet in Madurai today- September 17th 2024.
