New names for 2 railway stations: Railways alert to passengers on name changes for Kerala Thiruvananthapuram

CHENNAI: The existing name of Nemom railway station has been changed as Thiruvananthapuram South by the Railways, and and the name of Kochuveli railway station is now changed as Thiruvananthapuram North, following a notification from the Government of Kerala.

“In view of the directions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Government of India…..and those issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Government of India…in 2024, it is hereby notified for the information of all authorities and the public that the existing names of Nemom Railway Station and Kochuveli Railway Station are renamed as Thiruvananthapuram South and Thiruvananthapuram North respectively. The spellings in Devanagari script and in Malayalam script. The change will come into effect in all records related to this,” a press release from the railway has informed today- on September 6th 2024.

Based on the Kerala Government notification, the Southern Railway also took steps to alert the train passengers and general public about the new names, and a press release was issued by railway authorities today.
