MADURAI: A public appeal has been made to the Tamil Nadu Government and Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin from Madurai today- on August 24th 2024- to intervene and protect the 539 acres of land that belongs to the university in Nagamalai Pudukoattai area, that is within the campus and on the opposite side of varsity campus in Madurai.
“There seems to be a problem for our MKU vacant land. TIDCO had a meeting in our university in Madurai 15 days back…. Because our former Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar had promised land to establish a research park in our campus. Now, that VC is gone, he is not there. But, TIDCO is asking for our MKU land now, and that meeting took place in August 2024 just 15 days back. But, earlier when this proposal came to me, I had totally objected for this because our university land should not be given to Government purposes and projects. Our university will need land in future and that was what our great former Vice-Chancellors of MKU has told the State government.
Unfortunately, from VC Dr.Krishnan to recent Dr.J.Kumar, the university land is under threat… this is happening. I have all the evidence to say that MKU land should be protected and we have 539 acres of land. Whether it is for research park or etc, I don’t know. But, MKU land must be protected totally,” Mr.Anand, MKU Estate Officer, has said on August 24th 2024 while expressing his concern to save the MKU vacant land being taken away by the Tamil Nadu State government for TIDCO purposes and other reasons.
