MADURAI: Complaints have come that the iconic Gandhi Memorial Museum premises in Madurai is being misused without the knowledge of museum authorities and staff by a select few outside persons who are using the museum space in the name of social work, public service and charity, for their political expectations and photos.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given an alert and complaint asking how Gandhi Museum can be used for political press meets.
On August 20th 2024, this came to light from the Gandhi Museum in Madurai at around 10 am when a senior political leader from the AIADMK Mr.R.B.Udayakumar had addressed few local channel reporters in the name of a press meet inside the Gandhi Museum campus and made political criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and others.
Gandhi Museum sources told ‘Lotus Times’ in Madurai on August 20th 2024 that one Mr.Nellai Balu is regularly coming to the Gandhi Museum office in the name of social worker and he is seeking permission to distribute food, bed sheets, essentials etc and that was how on the spot press meets are taking place in the Gandhi Memorial Museum because Mr.Nellai Balu is taking advantage of the permission given to him for social work, but Mr.Nellai Balu is conducting full press meets from Gandhi Museum, and it is very unfortunate, museum officials said today on August 20th 2024.
The Gandhi Memorial Museum from Madurai has also appealed to the Prime Minister’s Office, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu State government and to the Madurai district authorities to tackle ‘Nellai Balu’ who is frequently coming and using the Gandhi Museum premises in Madurai and calling some political party leaders to the Gandhi Museum.
