MADURAI: In an important administrative decision that came into effect from this week, the Anna University in Chennai has started implementing bio-metric attendance for all teaching and non-teaching staff and has sent a circular to its constituent colleges in this regard.
In a phased manner, the bio-metric attendance system will come into effect very soon in the Anna University main campus at Guindy in Chennai also.
Bio-Metric Attendance Management System came into effect from July 1st 2024 (Monday) following a meeting convened by Anna University Vice-Chancellor Prof.R.Velraj in Chennai for all Deans and in-charges of University College of Engineering on March 20th 2024.
Guidelines have been issued already to its constituent colleges for effective compliance of bio-metric attendance system implementation for both teaching and non-teaching category and working hours for each category of staff members have been clearly given to be followed scrupulously by the employees. In addition to bio-metric system, maintenance of manual attendance register would also be continued for required audit and inspection purposes.

For example, the Dean in-charge University College of Engineering at Arni had sent a circular to all staff members on July 1st 2024 informing them about the decisions taken in the Deans meeting which was convened by Anna University Vice-Chancellor. Bio-metric attendance circular was sent to all HoDs, all teaching and non-teaching staff, sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media website today.
