MADURAI: Teachers of Government-aided colleges across Tamil Nadu had staged a sit-in dharna today- on June 20th 2024- demanding the State Government for payment of their unpaid salaries after their promotions by G.O. No 5 by the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department on 11-01-2021.

A large number of affected teachers had assembled in their respective colleges today by insisting on their genuine demand for fair and legal salary payment.

“As per the G.O. dated 11th January 2021 by Tamil Nadu Government Higher Education Department, teachers of all universities and Government colleges in Tamil Nadu got their dues along with salary. But, only the teachers of Government-aided colleges are not even paid the corresponding salary till date. Due to some reasons, only in Coimbatore and Thanjavur Zones, the government-aided college teachers have been paid. In the remaining six zones in Tamil Nadu, the promotion-increased salary was not paid in six zones. Even though funds were allocated by the Finance Department, the salary of teachers in aided colleges has been withheld in six zones without any reason. In the last three years, we have approached the Department of Higher Education and the office of Director of Collegiate Education several times, but no response,’ a press release given in English by the teachers’ association had expressed concern in Madurai today.

Sit-in protest and dharna took places at various colleges in Tamil Nadu including SVN College in Madurai, Madura College, Wakf Board College in Madurai, at Yadava College in Thiruppalai in Madurai, VHNSN College in Virudhunagar, Ambai Arts College in Ambasamudram, S.T.Hindu College in Nagercoil etc.
