MADURAI: Amidst financial crisis being faced by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here right now when it is not in a position to pay salaries and pension on time for the past several months, the varsity perhaps now requires more funding support immediately.
On 31st May 2024, there are 11 employees who are retiring from senior level positions in non-teaching/ administrative departments of MKU and they have to be paid their gratuity for long years of service to the university, their leave salary, commutation etc.
“These MKU staff who are getting retired on May 31st 2024 have put in long years of service…. from 15 years to more than 30 years. Will they get terminal benefits on retirement? What is their future because already the existing pensioners are struggling. The retired employees of MKU must get their pension benefits quickly. The old pension scheme, CPS or leave encashment etc…..they must be given to the 11 staff who are retiring on May 31st 2024. Terminal benefits is their right. There are staff from attender to assistant registrar to deputy registrar to senior deputy registrar among these 11 retiring MKU employees in the next few days. The university needs atleast Rs.2 crores immediately to settle the retirement terminal benefits for these 11 staff who are now worried about their future, their pension, the retirement amount etc because they are aware of MKU’s financial crisis and whether the State government will sanction funds for retiring staff,” a few employees expressed their fears while speaking to ‘Lotus Times’ English news website in Madurai on May 24th 2024.
