Rs.9,000 crores seized in 2024 elections till now: Drugs giving danger alert for India, says Election Commission report

MADURAI: The Election Commission of India’s crackdown during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is giving some shocking findings and an alert to the future because the election-time seizures are set to cross Rs.9,000 crores soon.

Information released by the Government of India on May 18th 2024 has confirmed that the Election Commission’s assault on money power and inducements in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections has resulted in a staggering seizures worth Rs.8,889 crores by the agencies and it will cross Rs.9,000 crores soon.

The seizures filter date is from March 1st to May 18th 2024. The Lok Sabha elections in India are being conducted in seven phases and the counting of votes will take place on June 4th 2024.

“Drugs and psychotropic substances were seized in a big way because of enhanced vigil. Drug seizure have been maximum. Precise intel-based collaborative efforts by agencies against drugs and narcotics is need of the hour to root out the role of dirty money of drug trade in elections…..and more importantly to save the future of youth of India and the country. The total seizure of drugs till now during this election period raids is Rs.3,958 crores which is 45 per cent of total seizure,” an important press release from the Government of India had alerted yesterday-on May 18th 2024.

Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr.Rajiv Kumar and his full team are reviewing the situation regularly during this election period, and is fully involving top agencies like Narcotics Control Bureau, DRI, Indian Coast Guard, State police and other agencies, and these measures have led to significant seizures in two months post announcement of Lok Sabha polls in India.

The Gujarat ATS, NCB and Indian Coast Guard have made joint operations and got three high value seizures of drugs in just three days with a value of Rs.892 crores, the press release added.
