MADURAI: Reliable sources in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) have today strongly indicated that two IAS officers and one senior professor of the varsity who is a Syndicate member will administer the university as a three-member committee till the new Vice-Chancellor is appointed in the place of Prof.J.Kumar who had just resigned and left.
The Syndicate member whose name has been approved by top level State government officials and Governor’s office is Syndicate member Prof.B.Mayil Vaganan who is presently a nominated member of MKU Syndicate by the Tamil Nadu Governor and university Chancellor, sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai today- on May 15th 2024.
“The other two members of this 3-member Convener’s Committee will be two IAS officers- Higher Education Secretary and Law Secretary. Third member who will be here in MKU is our Syndicate member Prof.B.Mayil Vaganan who has been nominated as a member. The official communication is expected in next 48 hours,” MKU sources said today- on May 15th 2024.
According to university sources, the reason for having two IAS officers and one professor/Syndicate member in the committee is to have a clear decision-making authority from Madurai till the new Vice-Chancellor is appointed for MKU because “it will take time due to the present model code of conduct, election results on June 4th and the time taken after that to decide for VC.”
However, there is a strong demand coming in from various associations and employees of MKU that an elected Syndicate member also should be included in the MKU Convenor’s Committee to run the the university’s routine daily administration because it will take a long time for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor because of the present elections model code of conduct.
