MADURAI: The main demand of guest lecturers who are working now in government colleges in Tamil Nadu with a low and meagre monthly salary have received a big boost today- on May 14th 2024- as a powerful higher education welfare and vigilance body ‘Makkal Kalvi Kootiyakkam’ has extended its full support to the genuine demands of UGC-qualified guest lecturers who are requesting the Tamil Nadu State government to absorb them into service by giving internal reservation to already working guest lecturers who are qualified to become to assistant professors.
“There are many guest lecturers working in Government arts colleges in Tamil Nadu for past several years and they got court orders in their favour for regularizing their service. A G.O. was also issued for them by the previous AIADMK government. But, now the Tamil Nadu Government is going ahead with 4,000 lecturer appointments in colleges as per new guidelines and TRB exam. We are requesting the Tamil Nadu government to implement the High Court orders and do justice to guest lecturers who are now working in colleges, while filling up the 1,146 vacancies for assistant professors in Government colleges,” Prof.R.Murali, Prof.V.Arasu, Prof.P.Sivakumar, Mr.Gana Kurinji and Uma Maheswari have appealed today as coordinators- on May 14th 2024- on behalf of ‘Makkal Kalvi Kootiyakkam’.
Several teachers’ associations like the Tamil Nadu All Government Colleges UGC Qualified Guest Lecturers Association have been pleading, demanding and urging the Tamil Nadu Government to take the presently working qualified guest lecturers into consideration by giving internal reservation while filling up 1,146 lecturer posts in government colleges.
