MADURAI: Top officials of Madurai Kamaraj University here are now waiting for the date to be given by Higher Education Secretary of Tamil Nadu government to hold an urgent Syndicate meeting of MKU because the present Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar has requested to be relieved from the VC position from May 13th 2024 citing his health and other personal reasons and the Tamil Nadu Governor-Chancellor had already accepted his request.

“We have made a request from MKU to the Higher Education Secretary for the Syndicate meeting. It will be a date of mutual convenience. The IAS Secretary has to give the date…..and if it is a few days here are there, it will not be a problem. I am going to my home in Chennai due to my health and personal reasons. It was a good experience as VC of MKU in Madurai and I was able to imbibe some good thoughts by giving guidance to the faculty in MKU. I had also motivated some young minds. There are some gaps I think about…. like the unfulfilled research park that could not materialize, the battery technology lithium focused technology ideas etc. They I hope will take shape and at the same time I have positive opinions too. I also feel emotional…..saw the salary issues of employees….,” MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar has said when ‘Lotus Times’ contacted him over phone today- on May 9th 2024.

When asked about his next plans after leaving Madurai as MKU Vice-Chancellor, he said that he is just going to Chennai and not to any other assignment like Chattisgarh etc being talked about now and he had requested the Tamil Nadu Governor-Chancellor to relieve him as MKU Vice-Chancellor only on health grounds.
