TIRUNELVELI: A circular sent by the Registrar of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) on April 30th 2024 giving instructions to the Heads of all university departments and to the Principals of MSU-affiliated colleges about admission of Ph.D. candidates has created anguish and furore among a section of research guides.
Prof.J.Sacratees, Registrar of MSU, had in his circular asked the HoDs and Principals of affiliated colleges to instruct the research supervisors to accept the candidates allotted by the university and issued orders through his letter dated 30th April 2024 on the subject Ph.D admissions-January 2024.
“You are liable to admit the candidates who are selected and having the provisional registration order from this university. This may be brought to the notice of Research Supervisors. The Heads of Research Centre are expected to direct the candidates to their selected research supervisors….The inconvenience caused to the candidates on Ph.D. admission will be subjected to further action about the university,” the Registrar of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli, has said in the circular sent to the HoDs of all university departments and Principals of affiliated colleges on April 30th 2024 for the Ph.D. admissions 2024.
HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION:
Quickly responding to the Registrar’s circular, a few faculty members and senior professors had expressed shock and concern over the manner in which instructions were given for Ph.D admissions 2024. Stating that the communication is horrible, there are voices expressing anguish on the quality of Ph.D. scholars these days.
“It will be better to give admission for Ph.D scholars by implementing the new regulations announced by the UGC- qualify by NET exam. Only by doing this, any university can produce quality students and standard publications. If people in the exam office of MSU could conduct the Ph.D. entrance interview and allocate the guides, they should also supervise and guide the research scholars as well,” a few faculty members had commented.
