MADURAI: The Indian Railways has launched an important new initiative across the country to offer hygienic meals and snacks at affordable price along with IRCTC to serve the passengers in an effective way particularly those who are travelling in unreserved General Second class (GS) coaches.
As apart of that initiative, the Southern Railway has set up exclusive meal counters at 34 stations across the Zone including Dindigul and Virudhunagar railway stations.
The prices are: Janatha Khana at Rs.20 with Poori bhaji-07 poori-175 gms and bhaji 150 gms; Rice based economy meal at Rs.20 (curd/lemon/ tamarind rice 200 gms); Snack meals Rs.50 (assortment of South Indian rice varieties 350 gms); and Sealed water glass 200 ml @Rs.3/-
These counters are conveniently available near General Second Class (GS) coaches on platforms. The railway stations five in Chennai division, three stations in Tiruchirappalli Division, four stations in Salem Division, two stations in Madurai Division, nine stations in Palakkad division and 11 stations in Thiruvananthapuram division, a press release received here today from the Southern Railway-Madurai Division has informed- on April 23rd 2024.
The economy meals counters commenced in Southern Railway with effect from April 17th 2024 to provide food at affordable rates. In Madurai Division, the economy meals counters are at Dindigul and Virudhunagar railway stations.
“This initiative during summer season offers a significant benefit for passengers particularly those travelling in General Class coaches. The readily available economy meals, affordable meals and snacks will ensure comfortable journey to passengers,” the press release added.
