MADURAI: In a very important initiative needed during this hot summer time, the Union Ministry of Railways has taken quick steps to ensure availability of clean drinking water at railway stations throughout the summer season for passengers.
Due to the expected heatwave and scorching summer, the Ministry of Railways has reviewed the availability of drinking water at stations and issued instructions to zonal railways to ensure adequate supplies in accordance with established norms, a press statement from railway has informed on April 13th 2024.
Railway officials of Madurai Railway Division have begun special steps for ensuring drinking water at Madurai, Virudhunagar and all railway stations in the division.
WATER TANKERS AND WATER COOLERS:
The measures to be taken in railway stations across the country are to ensure that existing water coolers are functional and meet passenger demand, deployment of water tankers at critical stations to supplement existing supplies, conduct regular checks at railway stations to confirm availability of water across all platforms, collaboration with NGOs and community groups, take support from women self help groups, scouts and guides, Self Help Groups’ help for distributing cool drinking water particularly near general class coaches of trains.
The railway authorities will also collaborate wit municipal corporations and State governments to find water supply solutions and make sure that there is 24X7 monitoring round-the-clock by railway staff for consistent water availability in railway stations and for passengers during this 2024 summer season, the railway press release said on April 13th 2024.
