
MADURAI: The 71st annual sports day of Fatima College in Madurai was held on February 23rd 2024 with various events in which students showcased their sports talent.
Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan had declared open the sports meet and appreciated the march past teams for their tireless efforts to prepare for a colourful march past displayed at today’s sports day.
He praised the Fatima College physical education director Dr.R.Velankanni Matharasi for moulding 109 sports students including two international players. “Sports is a field that teaches the life lesson. Failure is a part of the game. Winning or losing is not important, participation is the key,” the Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan had exhorted the students.
Fatima College Principal Dr.Sr.G.Celine Sahaya Mary had congratulated and honoured the physical education director for conducting a well-orchestrated sports day, according to a press release received from the college today.
The chief guest had distributed prizes to the winners of various sports competitions while Kho Kho player Ms.Shrinithi (BA English second year), handball national player Ms.Dharshini Priya (second year BA Sociology) and Silambam international gold medalist Ms.Kavya and Ms.Preethika (BA Economics first year) were felicitated on the stage.
Ms.Neha of BA Tamil first year who is the joint secretary of Students’ Council (Shift I) had welcomed the gathering. The torch was lit by the chief guest and was then passed on to V.Jothimani, P.Kavi Vennila, G.Keerthana and R.Harini who won laurels in various sports and athletic events, the press release said.
Ms.Kaviya Shree of B.Com third year who is secretary of Students’ Union (Shift II) had proposed a vote of thanks.
