MADURAI: A delegation of guest lecturers from various associations in the State had met Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Mr.R.S.Rajakannappan in Chennai today- on February 23rd 2024- and made an appeal to him to solve the issues and demands of guest lecturers working in colleges.
A charter of six important demands was presented to the Higher Education Minister and their appeal includes introducing service regularization policy, implementing UGC prescribed pay scale (Rs.57,700) following equal pay for equal work for 12 months up to 60 years of age and changing the designation to ‘Assistant/Associate Lecturer’ instead of guest lecturer.
The other demands of guest lecturers associations in Tamil Nadu include introducing yearly increment, PF, health scheme, service register etc besides providing leave facility including maternity leave, medical leave casual leave, study leave etc on par with regular teaching staff.
GUEST LECTURERS ARE EXPLOITED:
“We would like to draw the attention of Higher Education Minister of Government of Tamil Nadu to the issues faced by guest lecturers in colleges, as they are being exploited in various categories of colleges. We are being paid a scanty remuneration and that too on ‘no work no pay’ basis. We request you to take necessary measures and speedy intervention to protect us from exploitation,” the representation submitted to the Minister has said.
EARNEST APPEAL TO TN GOVERNMENT:
The All India College and University Teachers’ Association (Non-Regular) in New Delhi, which stands and fights for the cause of guest lecturers of colleges and universities in the country, is making its efforts by taking up the issues with State governments and higher education bodies and it took an initiative for today’s representation to Tamil Nadu State government.
In today’s meeting with the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister, the representatives of various associations of guest lecturers have signed the memorandum and they include TN Government College Guest Lecturers’ Welfare Association, Tamil Nadu All Government College UGC Qualified Guest Lecturers’ Association, TN Government College Guest Lecturer Progressive Union and TN Government College Guest Lecturers Association (Kazhagam) and members of guest lecturer fraternity.
