MADURAI: The Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) Prof.J.Kumar is facing severe criticism from teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsity as the last two months salary was not disbursed to them and pension too was not given.

As the university is boiling with various protests and pen down strike by staff demanding salary and pension, an elected Syndicate member of MKU has once again found fault with the attitude of present Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar in getting the audit objections cleared as swiftly as possible so that the varsity can get grants and funding support from the State government.

“The problem right now is that the Vice-Chancellor is not taking a proactive approach and a lead in solving the crisis. As an elected member of MKU Syndicate, I am ready to help and give time to help the authorities in rectifying all audit objections in a clear manner as per rules and procedures. Already I had urged him a week ago that he should consult the elected Syndicate members, but nothing happened till now,” Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary of American College in Madurai, who is an elected Syndicate member, told ‘Lotus Times’ media website on February 14th 2024.

He said that the MKU authorities have to permit him and support his good intentions of rectifying/clearing the audit report objections which is a major reason for not getting the funds in time for paying salary and pension.

“What is needed quickly is to form a Syndicate sub-committee comprising elected members. I am ready to help, and this matter was placed before the Finance Committee last week expressing our readiness to clear the audit objections. But, so far, the MKU Vice-Chancellor or any senior level officers of the university had not contacted us despite the tension prevailing in the varsity campus here,” Syndicate member Dr.Davamani Christober has expressed concern yesterday.
