MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Governor’s office had issued a press release on the sequence of events that took place in the Assembly today- on February 12th 2024- on what happened during and after the Governor’s address, and why the Tamil Nadu Governor Mr.R.N.Ravi had left the House.

“When the Speaker concluded the address, the Honourable Governor rose for the National Anthem, as scheduled. However, the Hon’ble Speaker instead of following the schedule had launched a tirade against the Governor and called him a follower of Nathuram Godse and more. The Speaker with his unbecoming conduct lowered the dignity of his Chair and grace of the House,” the press statement issued from Raj Bhavan today afternoon has explained.

The Governor’s office also informed that the Governor Mr.R.N.Ravi had returned the file sent to him as Draft Governor’s address, which was received at Raj Bhavan on February 9th 2024, because the address had numerous passages with misleading claims far from truth.

“The Tamil Nadu Governor had returned the file with following advice: To show due respect to the National Anthem and play it at the beginning and end of the Governor’s address. In this regard, the Governor had written letters to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Hon’ble Speaker in the past also. The Government chose to ignore tha advice of the Hon’ble Governor,” the press release from Raj Bhavan has said today.

Further, it said that the Governor with due regard to the Constitutional proprieties expressed his inability to read the address as it would have amounted to Governor’s address becoming a Constitutional travesty.

“The Governor on February 12th 2024 at 10 am had greeted the Speaker, Chief Minister and the members of the House and the people of Tamil Nadu and read out the first paragraph which contained a Kural (738) of Saint Thiruvalluvar. He expressed his respect to the house, wished the session to be productive for the good of our people of Tamil Nadu and concluded. The Governor sat through till the conclusion of address in Tamil version by the Speaker,” the Raj Bhavan press release has said giving the sequence of events that took place in the Assembly for the Governor’s address in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today.
