MADURAI: Fresh graduates who are passing out from colleges should always ‘be a life long learner’ because it is the order of the day and a very essential requirement for changing times, Mrs.Pushpa Sathyanarayana, Judicial Member, National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone), Chennai and former Judge of Madras High Court, has said here today.
“Graduation Day is a milestone in everyone’s life. Today, the situation demands that you have to update yourself to survive. What is needed is to Learn, Unlearn and Relearn. Be a lifelong learner even after joining in a job, keep on learning and be ambitious,” she advised passing out graduates while delivering the graduation day address at 3rd Graduation Day of Nagarathinam Angalammal Arts and Science College in Madurai today- on January 27th 2024.
She also stressed that there is no difference between boys and girls these days because they are only different in gender. “Boy and girl are not opposite to each other. The opposite to white is not black. They are just two different colours. Similarly, boys and girls are two genders, not opposite. We must change the thinking and thought process,” she added.
Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana also applauded the college management for offering good job-oriented placement focus courses and she congratulated the students for bagging 13 university ranks.
GROSS ENROLMENT RATIO IMPROVEMENT:
Prof.Dr.K.Muthuchelian, former Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University in Salem, in his felicitation address highlighted the importance of multi-disciplinary education in tune with the times to achieve development goals.
“Indian higher education system has seen impressive growth in recent times. The governments at the Centre and in State are taking measures to improve the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education through various initiatives like RUSA etc. There are several challenges which need to be addressed through policy interventions. We still need to improve the GER at national level. Even though this particular college was started just six years ago, it is showing good maturity,” he observed.
Dr.N.Jegatheesan, Secretary and Correspondent of the college, has informed in his welcome address that the college, which is situated near the Madurai airport, is catering to a large number of students from villages and rural background while the overall focus is on character building, discipline, extra curricular activities and good job placement for students.
Dr.K.Arjunan, Principal, presented the annual report for academic year 2022-23 informing that the college is offering 19 undergraduate courses and two postgraduate courses, and has a student strength of 1,000 students including 300 girls.
