CHENNAI: The Vice-Chancellor of Anna University Prof.R.Velraj has made a very serious observation over the poor quality in a large number of engineering colleges by stating that “150 engineering colleges will die in the next five years in Tamil Nadu” if they don’t take urgent steps to rectify.

“I see a very sad and very bad signal for 150 engineering colleges. They will face a natural death and it will happen unless they act fast,” the Vice-Chancellor has said talking to ‘Lotus Times‘ in Chennai on January 4th 2024.

His message of caution was due to some serious gaps in these 150 colleges because of which they are unable to attract even 10 percent of their sanctioned students’ strength.

The Anna University Vice-Chancellor has urged the engineering colleges to develop their infrastructure and faculty. “If students are not joining in a college, that itself is a strong signal and alert. But, we cannot keep watching, public awareness is going to make things bad for the 150 engineering colleges. We have to think of students’ future also,” Prof.Velraj said.

He also expressed concern that the quality of engineering colleges in southern districts is very poor.
