MADURAI: An appeal has been made to the Union Finance Minister Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman to take immediate steps for providing insurance amount at the earliest for industries and commercial establishments that were affected in the recent heavy rains and floods in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Chennai and Tiruvallur districts.
This request was made by the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association by submitting a memorandum to her in Madurai today morning- December 27th 2023- after she completed her inspection and review in rain-hit areas in southern districts yesterday.
“We request you to provide insurance amount at the earliest to industries and commercial establishments located in rain and flood hit districts. We also appeal to you to provide financial support from the central government to micro and small industries in these affected districts which are not insured. Our request is also to help the small street vendors in rain and flood affected areas,” the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association honorary advisor S.P.Jeyapragasam and team have urged the Union Finance Minister when they met her before she left for New Delhi from Madurai today morning.
The association had also thanked Union Defence Minister Mr.Rajnath Singh for visiting the flood affected areas in Chennai and Thiruvallur districts recently and it also thanked the Modi government and Union Home Minister Mr.Amit Shah for taking quick steps by sending special disaster rescue teams, helicopters, rescue boats etc.
“In Tamil Nadu, the machinery and infrastructure of lot of industries were damaged due to heavy rains. If the insurance companies release the insurance amount at the earliest, then the industries, factories, trade and business will start early. For small vendors, our request to the Union Finance Minister is to provide very low interest long duration loans through commercial banks,” the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has said in its appeal to Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman.
