MADURAI: The staff and pensioners of the prestigious Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai are not having a celebration mode for this Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024, as they have not received their November month salary and pension till date – on December 22nd 2023. The salary gets credited to their bank accounts on the first day of the month till few months back, but the situation is worsened now making it a question mark for staff and pensioners.
“We were told that there is no fund to pay November salary and pension. Today is December 22nd 2023. The university authorities said that we will get the November 2023 salary only in January 2024. So, we are all going to miss the Christmas festival and New Year celebration because most of us are dependent on salary and pension,” a senior professor told ‘Lotus Times’ media www.lotustimes.org today evening.
Senior professors, teaching and non-teaching staff have expressed their agony that top level officials of MKU and the Vice-Chancellor are giving a ‘sarcastic reply when we ask for our salary’ and the financial crisis of MKU should be addressed by the Tamil Nadu Government immediately.
