
MADURAI: The sad plight of financial turmoil now being faced by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai which is unable to pay monthly salary for its staff and pension for retired employees every month on time is going to become a State-wide issue very soon.
A couple of important meetings to discuss in detail about the financial crisis being faced by MKU will be organized in Madurai in the next one month in order to make Save MKU as a public movement.
This was announced by the ‘Save MKU Coalition’ secretary and senor academician Prof.Dr.R.Murali in Madurai today at the Pensioners Day celebration event organized by the Madurai Kamaraj Uuniversity Pensioners Association here on December 17th 2023.
“We are going to organise a round table meeting cum discussion in next 15 days to analyse the real reasons for MKU’s financial crisis. For this round table meeting specially focused for MKU problems, we will invite former Vice-Chancellors of this university, higher education officials, IAS officers, Government Secretaries and former syndicate members of this university who are aware of the MKU issues in detail. This round table meeting will be convened in Madurai in about two weeks time where we want to prepare a solution map for MKU to come out of its present financial crunch. Our goal is to save the MKU and Save MKU is our objective,” Prof.Dr.R.Murali has said at the MKU Pensioners Association meet in Madurai on December 17th 2023.
He said that the outcome of round table meeting will be sent to the Tamil Nadu Government for its immediate intervention. The ‘Save MKU Coalition’ will also conduct a public hearing in Madurai in the next one one month time by inviting experts, intellectuals, common people and eminent personalities in Madurai region to air their grievances, suggestions and solutions to save MKU by giving a road map to the State Government and concerned top level officials.
“We appeal to the people of Madurai to join our Save MKU campaign. In the next one month, we should be able to give a clear position on how to save and protect our great MKU,” Prof.Dr.R.Murali has said at the MKU Pensioners Association meeting held at Aurobindo Mira Higher Secondary School in Madurai today- December 17th 2023.
Among those who spoke at today’s meeting include senior MUTA-AIFUCTO leader Prof.B.Parthasarathy, advocate S.Vanchinathan and MUTA P.Vijayakumar who is working for save higher education in Tamil Nadu.
Prof.A.Srinivasan, president, MKU Pensioners Association, Mr.A.Swaminathan, association secretary and joint secretary Mr.Giridharan, were among those who had highlighted the problems, issues and grievances of university staff and pensioners.
