
CHENNAI: Nine employees of Southern Railway including two officers and seven staffers have been selected for the railway’s highest prestigious honour- Ati Vishisth Rail Seva Puraskar 2023- in recognition of their performance as railway employees, contribution to rail safety, innovation and productivity.
The awards will be presented to them at the 68th Railway Week celebration function to be held in New Delhi on December 15th 2023.
The nine employees of Southern Railway who got selected for the railway award this year are: K.Veeraperumal (track maintainer GR II), M.K.Sudheesh Kumar (loco pilot-passenger), T.Selvakumar (deputy chief ticket inspector), Deshidi Madhusudhan Reddy (RPF Inspector), A.Selvaraja (senior section engineer), Durgadevi Vijayakumar (chief nursing superintendent), E.Hari Krishnan (senior divisional commercial manager), S.Mayileri (senior divisional engineer) and S.Mariappan (assistant signal and telecommunication engineer).
A press release received from the Southern Railway yesterday has informed that a total of 100 outstanding employees of Indian Railways have been selected for the prestigious ‘Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar 2023’ of whom nine are from the Southern Railway.
Union Railway Minister Mr.Ashwini Vaishnaw will present the awards in New Delhi on December 15th 2023 along with Ministers of State Mr.Raosahib Patil Danve and Mrs.Darshana Jardosh. The Southern Railway has been selected as winners of the overall commercial efficiency and overall safety shield jointly with East Coast Railway and North East Frontier Railway respectively, the press release said.
AWARDEE FROM MANAMADURAI:
Mr.K.Veeraperumal, track maintainer at Manamadurai in Madurai Division, was one of the nine awardees. During his on duty patrol in Manamadurai, he detected a weld failure on track and immediately rushed to stop the approaching train (Number 16851 Boat Mail Express) by alerting the loco pilots with red hand signal. His devotion to duty, safety consciousness and presence of mind had saved the lives of hundreds of passengers while also averting a major train mishap.
