MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is now in a situation where only the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister can intervene and bring us out of the financial crisis faced by our university, Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar has said at the important MKU Senate meeting held here today in Madurai- on November 21st 2023.
“The financial position and the need for revenue generation methods is well-known for all those who knows the financial crunch faced by MKU. We are taking all efforts, taking sincere efforts to increase the income. But, this is a situation that CM can only intervene. I am also concerned about salaries and pension to be paid every month in time. We are waiting for the Chief Minister’s intervention and we will wait for some more days. Already, the Tamil Nadu State Government is surprised of how we are running this university with this funds available now. Each university handles in its own way, and even the Anna University in Chennai has said very recently that it is not going to increase the students’ fees. So, we must handle things carefully and so we wait for Chief Minister’s intervention for solving the MKU financial crisis,” the MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar has said at the Senate meeting held on November 21st 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor was responding to a question raised through an adjournment motion today by Senate member, former Registrar in-charge and senior professor Dr.Sankar Natesan who asked about the revenue generation methods for university in short-term and for long term.
The university’s financial crisis was raised by MKU Senate member Prof. Dr. Sankar Natesan at today’s Senate meeting as he asked the MKU Vice-Chancellor and senior level authorities about the revenue generation plans of the university because MKU is facing a financial crisis for paying the monthly salary also.
Responding to his question, the VC said that MKU can’t increase the fees and other charges because they must be handled very carefully. “When I told the State government top officials about our university’s current financial crisis, they were surprised of how we are running this MKU from Madurai with huge funds shortage. So, we are waiting for CM’s intervention to help us,” the Vice-Chancellor told Prof.Sankar Natesan at today’s Senate meeting- on November 21st 2023.
