MADURAI: The plight of teachers working in self-financing colleges in Tamil Nadu will soon get top level attention and intervention from the State government as Madurai MP Mr.Su.Venkatesan has assured that he will take up the matter with Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin soon.

“I will take up your problems, demands and sufferings to the Chief Minister and top level authorities in the State government. I understand the grievances of those who are working in self-financed colleges. There is a request from MUTA that Tamil Nadu also must follow the ‘Kerala model’ for self-financing college teachers. It is an important appeal and I can say that the issues raised from Madurai today for the sake of SF teachers in Tamil Nadu will be very helpful for entire country,” Mr.Su.Venkatesan has said here today while speaking at an exclusive conference organised by MUTA in MKU College in Madurai on November 5th 2023 to highlight the plight and agony of teachers working in self-financing colleges in the State with a salary of just around Rs.20,000 per month.

It was pointed out that the Kerala model is good for self-financing college teachers because there is a separate Act in Kerala for colleges, and that Act takes care of protecting the service conditions of SF teachers and they are linked to universities besides giving a sense of job security.

Earlier, MUTA president Dr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, MUTA general secretary Dr.M.Nagarajan and former president of MUTA M.Ananthakrishnan had addressing a large gathering of SF teachers at today’s conference where they had expressed deep concern over how self-financing college teachers and also the teachers working for SF courses in aided colleges are being exploited by the college managements by paying them very less monthly salary.

Teachers of self-financing colleges from various districts had attended the MUTA meet held at MKU College in Madurai today. Dr.M.Buvaneswaran, Principal, MKU College-Madurai, MUTA vice-president Prof.P.K.Periasamy Raja and MUTA Zone-1 secretary J.Robert, were among those who spoke at the meeting today where 11 resolutions were passed.
