MADURAI: The Joint Action Council of College Teachers (JAC) Tamil Nadu has today made a fervent appeal to Tamil Nadu Governor Mr.R.N.Ravi to reconsider his decision and give approval for conferring honorary doctorate to freedom fighter 100-years-old N.Sankaraiah by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here at its convocation to be held on November 2nd 2023.
“N.Sankaraiah is a freedom fighter who was imprisoned for four years during the time of our country’s freedom struggle. He could not continue his college studies at that time since he was put in jail. Sankaraiah is a man who dedicated his life for public causes, for the country and for social issues. In recognition of his great contributions, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin had suggested conferring awarding honorary doctorate to Sankaraiah by MKU, and approved by the Senate and Syndicate of the varsity. The university’s resolutions were sent to the Tamil Nadu Governor but he refused to sign on the papers. N.Sankaraiah is a great person who dedicated his life for the cause of people for over right decades. By conferring honorary doctorate to this personality, it will be a honour for the Madurai Kamaraj University also. Hence our JAC is requesting the Tamil Nadu Governor to give immediate approval for conferring the doctorate to freedom fighter N.Sankaraiah at the convocation,” said Dr.S.Suresh, Convener, JAC Tamil Nadu, in an urgent press statement issued on October 31st 2023.
The JAC secretary Dr.M.Nagarajan, treasurer Dr.A.Xavior Selvakumar and all office-bearers and members are making this appeal to the Governor-Chancellor for his consent to award honorary doctorate and to sign the required papers.
