MADURAI: A large number of teaching and non-teaching staff of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here had assembled before the Vice-Chancellor’s office in the campus today morning- on October 9th 2023 Monday- demanding immediate disbursal of September month salary.

The Madurai Kamaraj University Faculty Association (MUFA) and MKU Administrative Staff Association (MKU-ASA) have pointed out that the present administration of the university is not taking right decisions to improve the financial position of the varsity and also ignoring the interests of staff who are discharging their duty correctly.

Faculty and administrative staff from various departments had assembled in the main building and protested for the delay in payment of salary and pension this month.

“Our university staff are facing lot of hardships every month because of delay in salary. This is not a one month issue, salary is becoming a perennial problem. But, the Vice-Chancellor and administration is not taking quick steps to find a solution for this month after month problem. The MKU Statute is not being respected and followed. The plight of employees working on consolidated pay, the guest lecturers etc who are facing a huge problem is not being taken seriosuly. Some wrong decisions are leading to crisis for salary payment and we want the Vice-Chancellor and officials to take steps for staff salary and to speak to the State government about the financial crisis faced by MKU for paying salary and pension every month,” Prof.A.Velanganni Joseph, president, MUFA, has said while addressing the worried staff in MKU campus today morning.

Among those who were present include MUFA secretary Prof.S.Pushparaj and MKU ASA office-bearers Mr.P.Murugan and Dr.S.Muthiah, a few Syndicate members and staff. The two associations- MUFA and MKU Administrative Staff Association have said the next course of action will be decided immediately and they are now waiting for talks with Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and others.
