MADURAI: Putting a special thrust on world peace and non-violence, the Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai is organizing a ‘Peace Walk’ from Kanyakumari to Madurai starting from September 15th and culminating here on October 2nd 2023.
This peace walk will commence at Gandhi Mandapam in Kanniyakumari on September 15th and ends at Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai on October 2nd and it is being organized in association with Nipponzon Myohoji-Tamil Nadu which is a Japanese Buddhist Order for Peace Movement.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai at a pressmeet in Madurai today, the secretary of Gandhi Memorial Museum Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao and treasurer Mr.M.Senthilkumar have said that 25 Buddhist monks and peace propagators will walk from Kanyakumari to Madurai covering a distance of 280 kms and spreading the message of peace, harmony, brotherhood, tolerance, equality and the message of Mahatma Gandhi.
“This peace walk 2023 has a special significance since it marks the 75th death anniversary of Gandhiji and 154th birth anniversary of the Mahatma. It passes through Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Sankarankoil, Rajapalayam and Srivilliputhur before reaching the Gandhi Museum in Madurai on 2nd October. The participation and support of local people will be there in the route. For this year’s Gandhi Jayanthi, our museum is conducting programmes, competitions and all religion prayer. Also, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be inaugurated at Veeriruppu when the walk reaches Sankarankovil on 23rd September 2023. Madurai has a special place in history because Gandhiji changed his attire in Madurai,” Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao and Mr.M.Senthilkumar told reporters here today.
