MADURAI: The Devadoss Hospital in Madurai which is well-known for its well-equipped orthopedic department has added one more advanced cutting edge technology machine to its surgical arsenal by launching CUVIS Joint robot system for artificial joint replacement surgery here yesterday- on August 23rd 2023, making its the first hospital in south Tamil Nadu to introduce this robotic system.

It is one of the most advanced robot machines in the world in the field of orthopedics that comes with advanced surgical equipment capable of 3D pre-planning, virtual surgery and precise surgery. This CUVIS joint robot system for joint replacement robotic surgery was formally inaugurated at a special function in Madurai on 23rd August 2023 which was attended by Dr.A.Rathinavel, Dean of Madurai Medical College-Government Rajaji Hospital, Mr.Karumuttu Hari Thiagarajan, executive director of Thiagarajar Mills, Prof.Dr.A.Devadoss, Chairman of Devadoss Hospital, Dr.Sathish Devadoss, vice-chairman of the hospital, Dr.Deepak D.C, Joint Replacement and Arthroscopy Surgeon, Dr.S.Ebenezer Rajadurai, Head of Clinical Service-Devadoss Hospital and others.

WHAT MAKES CUVIS SPECIAL?

Explaining to reporters about the CUVIS joint robot system at a press conference held in Madurai on August 23rd 2023, hospital chairman Dr.A.Devadoss has said that the robot shows the patient’s bone in 3D images thereby helping the doctor to use those images for pre-planning of the surgery. “A precise surgical plan is important and CUVIS helps a lot for accuracy when compared to conventional surgery for joint replacement,” he added.

Dr.Sathish Devadoss said that there will be a remarkable reduction in side effects and this advanced system has tremendous benefits in pre-surgery, surgery and post-surgery due to robot precision up to nano millimeters. “The bed stay for joint replacement patient also comes down from earlier 10 days to just one day. Patient will be able to walk on the same day after surgery. Patients are back on their feet at the earliest. Since our Devadoss Hospital in Madurai has introduced this robot system machine, patients need not go to places like Chennai for robotic surgery,” he explained.

Some of the special invitees for the launch function organized by Devadoss Hospital here yesterday include Dr.A.R.R.Raghu Raman, MLA, Sattur constituency and Dr.B.Subbaraman, vice-president and centre Head of HCL-Madurai. A scientific session on robotic surgery was also organized by the hospital here yesterday.
