MADURAI: The Syndicate meeting of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here has today ‘deferred’ the issue of qualification approval for minority colleges by the university, which was marked as item number 19 for the MKU Syndicate meeting held in the varsity campus today- on August 18th 2023.

According to sources, the university syndicate had taken up this issue for discussion which said “To consider the issuance of pending qualification approval for the post of Principals, assistant professors for the colleges (6) affiliated to MKU without getting the panel approval of selection committee from the university as per UGC Regulations 2018 and G.O.No.5 Hr.Edn (H1) Dept dated 11-1-2021 together with office note….”

University sources said that this matter has been deferred after it was felt in the presence of the Higher Education Secretary that this topic can be taken up later in the next syndicate meeting. This was the 19th item mentioned in the MKU Syndicate meeting agenda for August 18th 2023.

“All educational institutions must follow the 2018 UGC Regulations. We must follow procedures for appointment of Principals and faculty in minority colleges also. Since some colleges are claiming that they should be exempted from university approval, this was included in the agenda of today’s Syndicate meeting. But, there was no positive response for this item and hence it was deferred because the authorities wanted clarity of rules and regulations for minority institutions. Some objections have come that there are violations taking place in some minority run institutions for appointments. So, this item on today’s agenda was deferred,” sources added.
