MADURAI: The post and position of vice principal which was created by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) at its constituent college- MKU College in Madurai – is now a raging question from college teachers’ associations and senior retired faculty in Madurai. This question assumes significance because the university syndicate meeting is taking place on August 18th 2023.

The question of whether there is a post called Vice-Principal or not in a government or aided or a university constituent college was raised on August 16th 2023 at a press meet here today by MUTA office-bearers, following an assault incident that took place in MKU College campus near Tallakulam outpost Alagarkoil Road in Madurai from where an incident of college vice-principal assaulting MUTA president was reported on Independence Day yesterday.

At a press conference held in Madurai on August 16th 2023, MUTA office-bearers have raised a question whether a post called vice-principal is allowed and approved in government, aided and university constituent colleges. A senior retired faculty has expressed his concern and pain for what had happened in MKU College campus in Madurai on 15th August 2023. Decisions taken by the MKU Syndicate and Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar in the last one year are likely to come under the government scanner now.

“The assault incident that happened in MKU College yesterday is paining me a lot. MUTA president Dr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan works without any expectations. My question from a very long time is whether vice-principal post is an approved post by the Government? Why that post of VP in college is prevailing in aided colleges, university constituent colleges? I was in Sourashtra College where I worked, I stood against that post in the college where I worked and got an order from the Directorate of Collegiate Education that this post called vice-principal must be scrapped immediately. It was in the year 2006. I hope that order still prevails and hope the respective Joint Directors of Collegiate Education will take steps in this incident where MUTA president was assaulted by a vice-principal, We must raise objections for vice-principal post in colleges. The incident that happened in MKU College yesterday on Independence Day had pained me a lot,” Prof.S.Thiagarajan, a senior faculty who had retired from Sourashtra College in Madurai, has said when contacted by ‘Lotus Times’ media www.lotustimes.org- here on August 16th 2023.
