MADURAI: The earnings of Madurai Railway Division in the Southern Railway is increasing substantially both in passenger traffic and freight traffic. For the period April to July 2023, the earnings of Madurai Division amounted to Rs.418.45 crores marking a substantial growth from the previous year’s actual earning of Rs.324.14 crores for the same period period.
This was informed by the Divisional Railway Manager of Madurai Division Mr.Padmanabhan Ananth here today after hoisting the national flag at the 77th Independence Day celebration function in Madurai on August 15th 2023.
“During the period April-July 2023, the division had reported an impressive 85.46 per cent increase in earnings from goods traffic and 11.94 per cent growth in passenger traffic when compared to same period previous year. The Madurai Division had transported 1.15 million tonnes of freight up to July 2023 marking an increase of nine per cent from previous year’s figure. The goods shed at Theni is expected to be operational soon,” the DRM Mr.P.Ananth has said.
The 90 kms Madurai-Bodinayakkanur route electrification project work is expected to be completed by December 2023. Speed increase, foot over bridges, high level platforms and redevelopment of 15 railway stations with more passenger amenities at a total budget cost of Rs.103 crores in Madurai division are given more focus right now under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme launched by the Prime Minister recently.
Earlier in the day, the Divisional Railway Manager had unfurled the national flag at railway colony in Madurai where a guard of honour was given by RPF personnel. Scouts and Guides, students of Railway Higher Secondary School-Madurai took part in the march past and cultural programmes done by students of SRWWO School and railway higher secondary school.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mr.T.Ramesh Babu, Chief Project Manager (Gathi Sakthi) Mr.M.Ayyappa Nagaraja, Divisional Personnel Officer Mr.T.Sankaran and Divisional Security Commissioner Mr.V.J.P.Anbarasu were among those present along with officers, supervisors and staff of Madurai Railway Division here today on August 15th 2023.
