MADURAI: The Founder’s Day celebration of Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) in Madurai took place on 29th July 2023 in the college campus here giving a motivational message to engineering graduates to think beyond IT jobs and especially where students are focused to get employment in just information technology sector companies only.
“My request to students of TCE and to engineering graduates is to don’t chase only IT sector jobs. Manufacturing sector has a huge potential, explore that and try to become an entrepreneur by yourself. India needs manufacturing companies. This is my request to engineering students and graduates,” Mr.Rajeev Mecheri, serial entrepreneur and Honorary Consul of Ireland-Chennai, has said speaking at the Founder’s Day function in TCE campus in Madurai today.
Lauding the TCE heritage and long standing legacy of providing quality education for engineering students, he said that every educational institution will be judged by its alumni and hence the young minds must concentrate on manufacturing sector also.
“The ability thrive in uncertainty and to be able to operate even in crisis time is a needed quality. Take success and setbacks with ease. Have innovative ideas and become founder of a company. This is how we started our business many years back because of our passion to become entrepreneur,” Mr.Rajeev Mecheri has encouraged the TCE students today towards startups.
Mr.Vijay Mohan, Founder of Pricol Limited-Coimbatore, spoke about the great contributions made several decades back by TCE founder Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar from textiles to education, and later followed by his son Karumuttu T.Kannan. He had highlighted about the significance of being an economy with innovations where resources, efficiency and innovation play a key role to make India as a developed economy.
Mr.K.Thiagarajan, Trustee of TCE and Dr.M.Palaninatha Raja, Principal in-charge, TCE, recalled the spirit with which the founder had started TCE and other educational institutions in Madurai for the benefit of students in southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Scholarship amount from TCE Alumni Charitable Trust and various endowments support was distributed to deserving TCE students who needed financial help for their education.
The TCE is helping deserving students every year through the funding support of TCE alumni and this year also more than 200 TCE students were given scholarship support (academic year 2023-24) and endowment support, totally coming to about Rs.62 lakhs.
