15th All India Vedic competition finals from today, 400 students to take part in Chennai

CHENNAI: The 15th All India Vedic Competition annual finals is taking place in Chennai from today- July 21st to 23rd- at Sri Krishnaswamy Kalyana Mandapam in T.Nagar, Chennai.

Students from all southern States and other States including Rajasthan, UP, Assam, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Odisha and West Bengal who are studying vedas and sastras will participate in this competition being organized by Om Charitable Trust, Chennai.

According to a press release received from the Trust, more than 1,000 students had participated in the preliminary competition held in March and April 2023. Out of them, 400 students have been selected for the finals. This vedic competition will be held in 19 categories with sub-divisions in each veda- Rik, Shukla. Yajur, Krishna Yajur, Sama and Atahrva vedas.

Each category will be ranked separately and prizes will be awarded along with cash prizes and certificates. The press release informed that cash prize and memento for the best team will be given to schools with highest average marks in each veda.

Mr.N.Kumar, Vice-Chairman of Sanmar Group, will inaugurate the vedic competition finals on July 21st 2023 at 9.30 am. After the vedic competitions today, there will be a keynote address in the evening on the topic ‘Ashram Dharma’.

On July 22nd 2023, the vedic competition will be followed by ‘Padha Puja’ for vedic scholars and a talent show by vedic students. A quiz competition on Indian rivers, vedas recitation by all students and Sanskrit drama will be there on July 23rd.

The valedictory session and felicitation ceremony will be held on July 23rd at 3.30 pm for which the IIT Madras Director Prof.V.Kamakoti will be the chief guest and distribute prizes to winners. Dr.R.Krishnamurthy Shastrigal will deliver the benedictory address.

“Apart from giving prizes, the travelling expenses of students and teachers who are participating in the competition, their food and accommodation for four days will be borne by the Om Charitable Trust,” the press release said.

The Trust provides scholarship to poor students who deserve support for studies. Started by Dr.Balaji Srinivasan and auditor Mr.Narayanan in the year 2008, the Om Charitable Trust has been conducting competitions every year. The other trustees are businessman Mr.Srinivasaraghavan and auditor Kumar.
