MADURAI: A special committee formed by the Governor and Chancellor of Tamil Nadu has not included the local Syndicate members of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).

The Governor’s secretariat at Raj Bhavan in Chennai has sent a letter on July 7th 2023 to the Registrar in-charge of MKU informing that the Governor-Chancellor has approved three names for the committee “for exercising the powers and performing the duties of the Vice-Chancellor till August 2nd 2023 since the VC Prof.Dr.J.Kumar had gone on medical leave for one month.”

Letter sent by the Governor’s secretariat on 7th July 2023 has said that the committee will have three members- Higher Education Department Principal Secretary (Chennai) who will be the committee convener while Law Department Secretary (Chennai) and Dr.S.Vasudevan, senior principal scientist at CECRI in Karaikudi who is a Syndicate member as Chancellor’s nominee will be members of this special committee.

Sources told ‘Lotus Times’ in Madurai today that the special Syndicate meeting held on 30th June 2023 had decided five names including Madurai-based Syndicate members Prof.Pushparaj and Prof.Nagarathinam for the committee, but these two names were ignored, omitted and missing in the Governor’s letter received yesterday.

“The Syndicate resolution passed by MKU at the June 30th syndicate meeting was surprisingly and shockingly ignored. The two names of Syndicate members Prof.Pushparaj and Prof.Nagarathinam are missing in the letter received from Governor’s office. Administration and routine matters of our university can be easily monitored only by local Syndicate members. How can the Syndicate resolution be altered when the decision for special committee with five members was taken after a long discussion and approval of all members. Minutes of the meeting has been changed by not including the other two names of our two Syndicate members. An urgent representation is going to be sent to the Governor’s office,” senior faculty members told ‘Lotus Times’ on July 8th 2023.
