MADURAI: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Mr.E.V.Velu had today – on July 4th 2023- inspected the construction works of a grand permanent gallery for the famous Alanganallur jallikattu. The Tamil Nadu government is constructing a huge ‘Jallikattu arena’ at Keelakarai near Alanganallur in Madurai district on a 16-acres site at a cost of Rs.44 crores.
Accompanied by senior officials from the district administration, the PWD Minister inspected the progress of construction work for the Alanganallur jallikattu arena which is going to have state-of-the-art facilities for the convenience of bull tamers and public.
The gallery will have sporting arena, main entrance called as ‘Vaadivasal‘, registration centre, a special enclosure for screening of bulls and medical test, adequate water facility and seating provision for thousands of people who throng to witness the Alanganallur jallikattu every year during the Pongal festival in which hundreds of bulls and bull-tamers take part.
During the inspection done by Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports Mr.E.V.Velu today morning, the Madurai District Collector M.S.Sangeetha and officials from concerned departments were present.
