A TRIBUTE TO MOTHERS: 720 Bharatanatyam dancers perform at a time for 10 minutes in Madurai

MADURAI: A glorious tribute was paid to mothers through dance form by Bharatanatyam artistes at a special event organised in Madurai on June 17th 2023.

Titled as ‘Annaiku Samarpanam’ in Tamil, this was a dance tribute event held to pay tributes to all mothers in the world, under the auspices as Sri Kalakendira Arts and Cultural Academy, through this event held at Sourashtra Boys Higher Secondary School at Kamarajar Salai in Madurai. It was also a tribute to Dr.Shylaja Mahadevan who was instrumental in encouraging Bharatanatyam dance performances from Madurai.

“Totally 720 Bharatanatyam dancers from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had performed at a time for 10 minutes here in Madurai yesterday, and this performance by Bharatanatyam dancers is also aimed for Spotlight World Records and High Range Book of World Records. The dance event was a tribute to mothers and to former director Dr.Shylaja Mahadevan who passed away seven months back. This dance performance event is a tribute (samarpanam) to her by daughter Sri Amsni Mahadevan,” Kalakendira Academy president Mr.R.H.Mahadevan, has said in Madurai today evening.

There were special guests for this dance performance event held in Madurai on 17th June 2023 that attempted for world record, and they include Vasuki Sasikumar and Mukesh Sharma besides Sreenivasan, head of Sourashtra Boys Higher Secondary School-Madurai, Dr.Jawaharlal, actor-professor. The event was organized by R.H.Mahadevan, president of Sri Kalakendira Performing Artists Forum that is motivating performing artists through a dedicated forum and Selvi R.M.Sri Amsni, director of Sri Kalakendira Arts and Cultural Academy, situated at Viswanathapuram in Madurai.
