MADURAI: The general secretary of State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu Mr.P.B.Prince Gajendra Babu has alerted parents and students on June 10th 2023 to not get carried away by the recent 2023 rankings given to colleges and universities in the name of ‘National Institutional Ranking Framework’ (NIRF) and not to get influenced by the publicity being made by some private colleges based on the NIRF ranking secured by them a couple of days back.
“Ranking is a market concept. It should be rejected in total by our Tamil Nadu government in its education policy being formulated exclusively for our State by Stalin government. Rankings are just like cheating and bogus. It is a market idea, on what basis was it given? Who are they to accredit our educational institutions, to give ranks for our universities and colleges here? Ranking is a market concept, it will only increase the fees to be paid by students. Rankings only given to develop their brand name, and for the benefit of private colleges and private universities to hike the fees for self-financing courses by using NIRF rank. The State universities are created by State government, who are you to accredit and give a ranking for our State institutions. Accreditation and ranking is a market concept, it should be fully rejected by the State Education Policy being formulated by Tamil Nadu Government right now,” Mr.Prince Gajendra Babu has alerted while speaking at a seminar in Madurai on June 10th 2023 and he also questioned the rationale behind NIRF ranking and NAAC accreditation being done by some government bodies and agencies in the country.
Mr.P.B.Prince Gajendra Babu was speaking at a seminar organized by State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu, Society for Community Organization Trust (SOCO Trust-Madurai) and Justice Shivaraj V Patil Foundation, Madurai, on the topic “State Education Policy: A way forward to save education, democracy and freedom”.
Among those who were present at the seminar include SOCO managing trustee advovcate A.Mahaboob Batcha, MUTA president Mr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, Justice Shivraj V Patil Foundation managing trustee advocate S.Selva Gomathi and senior MUTA leader Prof.P.Vijayakumar.
