MADURAI: The passing away of Karumuttu T Kannan in Madurai today is a huge loss especially for the field of education in Tamil Nadu and it is a sad day for us because we have lost a visionary who made a significant contribution for ensuring quality of higher education from arts courses to engineering branches, said career consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi in Madurai today.
After paying his last respects and homage to Karumuttu Kannan who passed away today morning- on May 23rd 2023 at his home in Kochadai in Madurai, Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi has said that the demise of Karumuttu Kannan leaves a huge void in education field because “his ideas and vision, his thoughts and suggestions were respected by governments, officials and academicians. He held many posts and made significant contributions for education in a humble manner. I know him for the past 20 years and the news of his death is completely unbelievable.”
Mr.Karumuttu T Kannan had passed away at 5 am today morning- on May 23rd 2023- at his residence in Madurai after a brief illness. He is well-known in Tamil Nadu as an educationist, industrialist and philanthropist who helped several deserving students and families. He was also the ‘Thakkar’ (Fit Person) of the famous Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai for the past 15 years.
“Mr.Karumuttu T Kannan had continued his father’s mission and made the Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) into a top class high quality sought after engineering college in India. His death is a huge loss for Madurai and my prayers for his soul to rest in peace,” said Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi after paying his condolences to the bereaved family in Madurai on 23rd May 2023.
In the same way, the managing director of Mahatma Group of Schools in Madurai S.Premalatha has said that she has no words to express her sorrow and shock at the passing away of Karumuttu T Kannan.
“I studied in Thiagarajar College in Madurai in the 70s. Karumuttu Kannan is a very good human being and I have a long association with the family. My deepest condolences and prayers,” Mrs.Premalatha has said after paying her last respects today.
People from various walks of life have expressed their condolences and paid respects at Karumuttu Kannan’s Kochadai residence in Madurai today. DMK MP Ms.Kanimozhi, AIADMK senior leader Mr.R.B.Udayakumar and Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr.N.Jegatheesan were among those who paid their homage.
