MADURAI: The incidence of sudden cardiac arrest and active persons suddenly collapsing has become a point of alert being given by cardiologists and heart care specialists on the need for having more and more trained persons in resuscitation.
Recognizing the need for creating active heart warriors through basic life-saving training, the Active Heart Foundation has started a Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre at Reserve Line-Athikulam Main Road in Madurai. Dr.Rasesh Diwan, Director, Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF), had inaugurated the training centre here on May 21st 2023 in the presence of Dr.M.Kalyanasundaram, Director, Institute of Anaesthesiology-Government Rajaji Hospital-Madurai, Dr.A.Mathavan, senior interventional cardiologist and Founder of Active Heart Foundation.
TWO HANDS CAN SAVE A LIFE:
Dr.Rasesh Diwan, National Couse Director of IRCF, had given a demonstration of how timely reaction and basic knowledge about resuscitation can save life at the time of sudden cardiac arrest. “Two hands can save a life. We must train common people on how to do resuscitation, we must train youngsters in colleges, offices etc. It will be very useful if people know about Compression Only Life Support and chest compression method,” he said while explaining the resuscitation procedure to a group of youngsters here today.
He lauded the effort taken by Active Heart Foundation in Madurai to start a comprehensive resuscitation training centre and provide basic life-saving course like Compression Only Life Support that trains in how to save the life of a person suffering cardiac arrest outside a hospital setting.
The training centre that was opened at Athikulam in Madurai by Dr.A.Mathavan will hold training sessions in resuscitation and create public awareness about Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator machine etc. Paramedical students and interested persons will be given basic training on how their two hands can save a heart and the life at the time of sudden cardiac arrest through life-saving techniques.
The Active Heart Foundation here has been authorized by Indian Resuscitation Council Federation to establish this training centre that will be catering to southern region of Tamil Nadu, according to a press release. Dr.A.Mathavan has said that Active Heart Foundation (AHF) was launched in the year 2018 with a mission on preventable cardiac deaths and it was inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Mrs.Nirmala Sitharaman.
“The Active Heart Foundation has so far trained more than 15,000 people in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and it also donated a couple of Automated External Defibrillator machines for public places. CPR is a life-saving technique and and we want our common people to know the instant procedure of doing resuscitation. The more the number, the better it is to save lives,” senior interventional cardiologist Dr.Mathavan added.
