MADURAI: The railway station redevelopment works at Madurai Railway Junction here are progressing now at a steady pace to give lots of amenities to passengers soon. The Southern Railway is executing railway station redevelopment at a cost of Rs.350 crores in order to give a good passenger experience at the railway station. The contract was given to M/S P&C Projects Private Limited in Chennai setting a time frame of 36 months for completion of the railway station redevelopment project, according to a press release received from the Southern Railway Madurai Division here on May 17th 2023.
Some of the works executed so far for Madurai Railway Station redevelopment include site topography, soil investigation, master plan validation, completing site office construction for PMS etc. Two terminals are proposed to be constructed- one each at the eastern and western wide of the railway station in Madurai. Three multi-level parking structures will be built on both sides to facilitate segregation of arrival and departure of passengers.
SUBWAY TO PERIYAR BUS STAND:
A subway connecting the railway station and Periyar Bus Stand in Madurai is also getting ready besides parcel movement facility, two skywalks connecting the parking lot etc, the press release received on May 17th 2023 from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway has informed. Sky walk for arrival passengers connecting auto and bus bay are also planned. The Madurai Railway Station redevelopment work is being carried out complying with Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment standards.
Several works for Madurai Railway Junction are now in progress for cables, water lines, sewage lines, utility cable works, parking lots, sub-station cables building, RPF canteen, traffic diversion etc. “Architecture and structural design of Madurai Railway Junction buildings and other railway structures are in progress now. Some buildings are being demolished and regulat review meetings are held with stakeholders of the project,’ the press release received from Southern Railway CPRO Mr.B.Guganesan had added- on May 17th 2023.
