MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association had urged the new Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr.Thangam Thennarasu to convene a meeting on GST by calling all stakeholders and discuss to resolve the GST grievances for the benefit of trade and industry. It had also requested him to implement ‘Samadhan’ scheme for collecting the pending tax arrears and dues.
A representation was submitted to him on May 14th 2023 by the association team comprising its president Mr.S.V.S.S.Vel Shankar, honorary advisor Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam and secretary Mr.S.Sai Subramaniam, when they met Finance Minister Mr.Thangam Thennarasu at his residence in Mallankinaru near here on May 14th 2023, according to a press release received from the association.
“The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association had first congratulated Mr.Thangam Thennarasu for assuming charge as Minister for Finance and Human Resources in Government of Tamil Nadu. We requested him to organize a separate meeting of trade representatives from associations, invite stakeholders and government authorities to discuss GST problems and take steps for resolving them. For the past two years, no meeting was conducted other than the pre-budget meeting. If a meeting is conducted in Tamil Nadu by the Finance Minister, the GST grievances and issues can be forwarded to the GST Council in New Delhi. Convening an exclusive meeting for GST will help the traders and business community,” the press release received here yesterday from TN Foodgrains Merchants Association president Mr.S.V.S.S.Velshankar and honorary advisor Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam has said.
The association has also asked the new Finance Minister to take steps for initiate steps for ‘Samadhan Scheme’ like in Kerala which focuses on collecting the pending tax dues. “Even though it was announced in 2021 budget, it could not take shape and no orders were issued yet. Pending arrears under Value Added Tax regime can be collected without problem for traders and business,” the association has said in its representation submitted to Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Mr.Thangam Thennarasu at his residence in Mallankinaru near Madurai on 14th May 2023.
