MADURAI: The proposed Madurai Metro rail project from Madurai Othakadai to Tirumangalam is getting into full swing preliminary works as the required procedures starting from soil testing etc are underway right now for this 31-km metro train project which is going to be executed at an estimated cost of Rs.8,500 crores with 18 metro train stations in the route.
The Chennai Metro which is executing the project in Madurai had commenced the preliminary works for Madurai Metro rail project and the soil samples are now being sent to a Hyderabad lab, sources said on May 10th 2023.
The construction works of Madurai Metro rail are to commence in 2024 and get completed in the year 2027, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in focus now. As a part of that, the soil testing work in the proposed Madurai Metro route from Madurai Othakadai to Tirumangalam is being done for every half a kilomter in the train track route.
So, the underground soil testing is being done in the Madurai Vaigai river area at Alwarpuram-Goripalayam A.V.Bridge at a depth of 30 meters down the ground. Through special machines, the soil testing for Madurai Metro rail is being done at 75 places in 30 kms route proposed for Madurai Metro train, and soil testing is now completed in 66 identified places in the metro train route, and soft rock, hard rock places being identified now in this process.
