Madurai Alanganallur Jallikattu arena and gallery getting ready in 16 acres at Rs.44 Crores; TN PWD Minister inspects construction works

MADURAI: The famous Alanganallur Jallikattu in Madurai district which takes place during the Pongal festival time every year is getting a new arena and gallery for the thousands of people who watch the bull-taming ‘Jallikattu’ event at Alanganallur near here.

On 7th May 2023, Tamil Nadu PWD Minister Mr.E.V.Velu had inspected the construction works going on for Alanganallur jalliikattu arena near Keelakkarai area, accompanied by Minister Mr.P.Moorthy and top officials from the Madurai district administration.

Following the announcement made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin last year, a top class ‘Jallikattu’ arena is being constructed at Alanganallur where there will be a separate gallery for visitors, media etc and a separate exhibition space for bulls.

“The Chief Minister had announced this in the Assembly last year. For Jallikattu the State government gave 16 acres land and estimated cost is Rs.44 crores. A top class gallery is coming up along with so many other facilities starting from ‘Vadivasal’. The works for this started in March this year and the work will be completed by December this year. I am doing this inspection at the Alanganallur jallikattu area here in Madurai today along with Madurai District Collector Dr.S.Aneesh Sekhar and others. The PWD will take steps for providing transport facilities in Alanganallur area and highways department will take steps for giving good road connectivity to Alanganallur for the convenience of people coming to see Alanganallur jallikattu,” said PWD Minister Mr.E.V.Velu while speaking to reporters in Madurai after inspecting the ‘Jallikattu’ construction works going on at Alanganallur near Madurai on May 7th 2023.
