MADURAI: A heritage institution in higher education- The American College- in Madurai is offering 3 years undergraduate course in costume design and fashion thereby giving a platform for fashion study right in Madurai itself.
Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Principal of American College, has said in a message received on May 5th 2023 that the college which is known for its heritage is now going to offer a latest course in the field of fashion through the college’s Department of Costume Design and Fashion.
“This UG course has been initiated for budding fashion aspirants. The department has a young, energetic and dynamic team of faculty who are going to offer a platform for study fashion course in Madurai and learn the nuances of costume design, fashion and indigenous textile art that is on par with global needs” the Principal said.
Dr.Shourini Banerjee, Assistant Professor and Head of Department of Costume Design and Fashion, has informed that the American College will offer three years B.Sc Costume Design and Fashion program with state-of-the-art facilities, give exposure to students in designing skills, fashion styling, well-equipped fashion studio, technical know-how and fashion events etc.
The American College has taken initiatives for good collaborations and rope in experts in the field for offering this course, she added.
Dr.Davamani Christober and the department team had stressed that the objective is to establish a base for studying fashion designing in Madurai and cultivate artistic designing cum styling photography skills in textiles through this B.Sc-Costume Design and Fashion course that teaches from fundamentals to the latest digital tools in fashion industry, and comes with latest designing tools and develop fashion creativity for budding fashion aspirants in Madurai region.
Interested students can enrol for this UG course in costume design and fashion at American College in Madurai for academic year 2023-24.
