Food Safety team seizes mangoes, grapes and bananas at Madurai Maatuthavani fruits market

MADURAI: Government’s Food safety teams had conducted a sudden raid, checking and spot inspection in 130 fruit shops at fruits market in Maatuthavani in Madurai city on 26th April 2023.

The food safety inspection team raid gave some shocking results to the food safety officers because they had seized 154 kilos of artificially ripened mangoes, 45 kilos of artificially ripened and damaged grapes, and 60 kilos of watermelon fruit and 420 kilos of banana fruit, in one single area.

The artificially ripened fruits and damaged fruits being sold in some shops in Madurai Maatuthavani fruit market area were seized and destroyed by the Food Safety officials in Madurai district who conducted the sudden surprise inspection. and action was also taken by imposing a fine of Rs.2,000 against a shop that was having banned polythene cover, Dr.Jayarampandian, Designated Officer for Food Safety, Madurai District, has said on April 26th 2023.
